WHAT IS BANANA BREAD?
Banana bread is a type of bread made from mashed ripe bananas; in fact, it is most often a quick bread, meaning no yeast is added. Quick bread is prepared quicker and more reliable than regular yeast bread; the skill level required for preparing quick bread is also considered quite lower.
While banana bread is considered a bread most of the time it resembles cake more than bread. Banana bread is mostly prepared in the United States; it is so popular that February 23rd is recognized as a National Banana Bread Day.
Banana bread was introduced somewhere in the late 19th century, but it wasn’t until 1930’s that the recipe gained popularity; the introduction of baking powder on the market helped banana bread get published in many cookbooks of that time. Some food historians believe banana bread was a byproduct of the Great Depression as resourceful housewives did not wish to throw away overripe bananas.
While banana bread is a great treat to enjoy, some creative stoners have found a way to make even better. Cannabutter banana bread combines the flavours and texture of the loved banana bread with the mind-bending properties of cannabis. A true delight for every sweets-loving stoner.
The cannabutter banana bread is made in the same fashion as the regular banana bread with the exception of using cannabutter instead of regular butter. If you already have cannabutter feel free to skip the next part.
CANNABUTTER
Cannabutter is the primary ingredient in almost all cannabis edibles. Cannabutter is butter infused with the active ingredients found in cannabis; those ingredients include cannabinoids and terpenes.
Prior to making cannabutter cannabis should be processed in a particular way so the active ingredients can actually interact with your body; the process is called decarboxylation.
Raw cannabis is actually very poor with cannabinoids. On the other hand, it is abundant in acidic variants of those cannabinoids. Decarboxylation is the process of turning those acids into cannabinoids. The process can be done in two ways.
The first way is keeping the cannabis stored properly and waiting for a very long period of time. Cannabis treated in that way is known as cured cannabis. Unfortunately for all the acids to convert to cannabinoids the time period is unreasonably long and even in cured cannabis, the cannabinoid levels are relatively low. Still, even when making edibles it is favourable to do it with the more potent cured cannabis.
The second way of increasing cannabinoid levels in cannabis is introducing heat; it is exactly what happens when smoking cannabis. When preparing cannabis for edibles another slightly more complex method of decarboxylation is used.
Decarboxylation:
• Break your buds into smaller pieces with your hands. It is possible to use the grinder, but unnecessary. (In this recipe you can use anywhere between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis)
• Preheat your oven to 110°C
• Place the marijuana on a baking sheet. It is advisable to use parched paper as it eases further manipulation and reduces mess
• Place the baking sheet with marijuana inside the oven for 40 minutes
• After baking for 40 minutes your marijuana is now decarboxylated.
With the decarboxylation process finished, we can make the actual cannabutter. The quantity of cannabis used varies depending on personal preferences. For 500 grams of butter, the standard is anywhere between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis. For this recipe, we use 30 grams, but be warned: the edibles made with this particular cannabutter will be extremely potent.
Ingredients:
• 500g unsalted butter
• 1 cup water (more can be added)
• 30g of decarboxylated cannabis
Equipment:
• A metal pot
• A large glass bowl (the bowl should fit in the pot so it rests on the edges of the pot)
• A whisk
• Cheesecloth or a fine metal sieve.
• A plastic container
Making cannabutter:
1. Add water to the pot, some 3 or 4 fingers will do. After you add water place the glass bowl over the pot. The water shouldn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. If it is touching the bottom simply remove excess water or get a different bowl. Set the stove on medium to low.
2. Add butter to the glass bowl. As the butter begins to melt, add water.
3. When the butter is completely melted, reduce the heat to low and add the decarboxylated cannabis.
4. Maintain low heat and let the mixture simmer for approximately 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture doesn’t boil. Boiling bubbles should be seen every 3-5 seconds, not more.
5. After simmering for your desired amount of time, pour the hot mixture into a glass, refrigerator-safe container, using a cheese cloth or fine mesh strainer to strain out all plant product from the butter mixture. Squeeze or press the plant material to get as much liquid off of the plant product as possible. Discard leftover plant material.
6. Cover and refrigerate the remaining liquid overnight or until the butter is fully hardened. Once hardened, the butter will separate from the water, allowing you to lift the now infused cannabutter from the water to use in your recipes. Discard remaining water after removing the hardened cannabutter.

We definitely recommend sharing your cannabutter banana bread with some friends; the experience is definitely something you will want to talk about with someone who understands it. Without further ado, let’s make cannabutter banana bread.
Ingredients:
• 1 cup sugar (1/2 brown sugar, 1/2 granulated)
• 1/2 cup cannabutter
• 2 eggs
• 3 bananas
• 1 tbsp milk
• 1/3 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• 2 cups flour (1/2 cup wheat, 3/2 cup white)
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 cup walnuts
• 1/2 cup chocolate chips
(Tsp is a teaspoon, the tbsp is a tablespoon)
Equipment:
• 2 bowls
• A whisk
• A bread pan
Making cannabutter banana bread:
1. Place cannabutter in a place with room temperature. You want it to melt so it can be manipulated more easily.
2. Grab the first bowl and put the peeled and cut bananas inside. The bananas don’t have to be cut in a uniform way. Mash the bananas with a large spoon or a fork. Add 1 tbsp of milk to the bowl and proceed to mash the bananas.
3. Put 1/2 cup of cannabutter and 1 cup of sugar in the second bowl. Cream them together using a whisk.
4. Once the mixture in the second bowl is creamed together well, add eggs and continue to whisk the mixture. Adding eggs one by one may make the process easier. To make the mixture fluffy use the whisk in a circular motion.
5. Next add vanilla extract, 1 tsp of baking soda, 1 tsp of baking powder, 1 tsp of ground cinnamon and 1 tsp of salt to the mix. Wish everything together.
6. Add the content of the first bowl to the second bowl. Whisk everything together well.
7. Add 2 cups of flour. Wish the contents of the mixture well. If the mixture is 2 dry and the flour can’t be mixed in, add a small amount of milk.
8. Finally, add walnuts and chocolate chips. Again, whisk in the added ingredients.
9. Preheat the oven to 160℃.
10. Grease up the bread pan. Pour the mixture into the pan.
11. Leave the bread in the oven for approximately 1 hour. Check if the bread is finished by piercing it with a knife; if nothing stays on the knife once you pull it out the bread is finished.
12. Once you remove the bread from the pan, leave it to rest on a wire rack for another hour.
13. Enjoy!
